Before buying a puppy ...

Contacts

Begin your search by contacting GRCA Puppy Referral or Rescue volunteers with questions you might have and where to begin your search. These volunteers, and conscientious breeders, most often work with buyers in their own area or region.
GRCA Puppy Referral
GRCA Golden Retriever Rescue

Conscientious Golden Retriever breeders accept responsibility for the living creatures they produce. They commit to being available to you for the dog's lifetime for help, information, advice and education. They may require that a dog of their breeding be returned to them, if at any point in its lifetime you cannot keep it. Most will want to interview you by phone or in person before placing a puppy in your home. Remember to ask if they provide a written contract, so that you understand the breeder's and your responsibilities.

GRCA Breed Standard

Irresponsible breeders do not screen breeding pairs for commonly inherited health concerns. Nor do they screen for homes and lifestyles appropriate to owning a Golden Retriever. Buyer beware!
