Message from Joyce Kinghorn
Outgoing GRCA President

In 1993 the GRCA Board of Directors approved the heritability factor of hip dysplasia vis a vis the PennHip method as proposed by Morris Animal Foundation with Dr. Gail Smith as principle investigator. The study funded by the club concluded in March, 1996. In April, 1997, I received a notice from Morris Animal Foundation that the final figures had been received. However, because of confidentiality between the Foundation and Dr. Smith, I was not at liberty to disseminate the information to the membership of the club. Dr. Smith was to work on his manuscript and to publish it as soon as possible. Once that publication was accomplished, GRCA would be welcome to publish the final report.

In July, 1998, having heard nothing further from Morris Animal Foundation in regards to the final publishing of the study, I called the foundation and spoke with the director, Dr. Robert Hilsenroth. The following letter deals directly with the current status of the results of the study as of August 20, 1998:

Letter from Dr. Robert Hilsenroth, Executive Director Morris Animal Foundation.
