THE NEW
COMPLETE GOLDEN RETRIEVER
by Gertrude Fischer

Review by Edell Schaefer

Considered by many to be one of the foremost historians on the breed, Ms. Fischer is eminently qualified to write this book which will appeal to the potential Golden Retriever owner, as well as the novice or long-standing fancier. Typical of the Howell Book House publication, this book has chapters on general care, breeding, and training. The real value is in the history and photographs, and the supplemental chapters on the standard, and Goldens in foreign countries. Contributors to this book include: Elma Stonex ("Development of the breed in Great Britain and Other Lands"); Rachel P. Elliott ("The Golden Retriever breed standard - an analytical discussion); Ann F. Walters ("Training for retriever field trials"); and Dora Gostyn ("Field Trials in the British Isles). Originally published in 1974 as THE COMPLETE GOLDEN RETRIEVER, this version was significantly updated and revised in 1984. A must- have for any Golden Retriever owner, despite the lack of an index.
